Omar was born on the south side of Chicago, Illinois in the summer of 1970. He started his entertainment career at 13 years old as a local commercial and industrial film actor. He has been featured in television commercials from ‘Kraft Macaroni and Cheese’, ‘Chicago HMO’ and ‘The Wisconsin State Journal’ to several industrial films for McDonald’s television and the Chicago Public School Board. At 15 years old, he began a five year stint as a Director trainee for “Major League Productions”. This was also the same year Omar received his first writing award from the NAACP Image Awards Presentation for one of his scripts entitled “Little Boy Blues”.
At 25 years old Omar Produced and Directed his first independently funded film by working three jobs. This film was calledĀ Tall, Dark & Handsome. Omar moved to Los Angeles and began working his way up through the entertainment industry. Starting in the mail room of Universal Studios, Omar made the acquaintance and sought after the advice of many well established Writers, Producers and Directors. Soon after Omar took an entry-level position with a Visual Effects company in Burbank California. He quickly ascended from production assistant to visual effects coordinator on a variety of popular television shows and feature films. This experience afforded Omar the opportunity to join Saban Entertainment / Fox Kids Network as a CGI Production Manager guiding projects for their successful Fox Kids lineup.
Omar reached the pinnacle of his Visual Effects career when he and several former coworkers launched their own Visual Effects company in the fall of 2000. Recently Omar returned to his first loves of Writing. Producing and Directing and subsequently helmed several short films. Omar’s years of production experience, both ‘industry recognized’ and independently financed films, proved to be a valuable asset. At 33 years old Omar has created his own independently financed production company `Various Artists Productions Inc.’
